LCL Shipping Service

 1. LCL: Select origin and destination

In the drop-down menus, select the destination country to which you will ship (Ship to). Follow several steps and see the shipping cost instantly.

Note: Please select a pickup option if you need to collect from your cargo location in the United States (collection "from your door"). Then, in the final calculation step, you must enter the five-digit U.S. ZIP (postal) code where your load is located. You will then receive our complete price quote, including the option that covers the pickup cost.

Have trouble finding a U.S. ZIP (postal) code? Use the U.S. ZIP Code Lookup to find a ZIP code in the USA.

 2. LCL: Shipping FROM / Origin

This country/city combination represents a list of currently available international warehouses in the USA. Please select the terminal nearest to you.

You can either deliver your boxed goods to the nearest terminal or request that we pick them up "at your door." If you need to collect it, enter the U.S. ZIP (postal) code of your load location on the final step of the calculation.

Have trouble finding a U.S. ZIP Code? Use the U.S. ZIP Code Lookup link to find a ZIP code in the USA.

CONSIDERING SHIPPING COST Vs. CONVENIENCE: Please take note of the critical distinction between origin shipping terminals WITH or WITHOUT an asterisk (*) as indicated in our dropdown list.:

 3. LCL: Shipping TO / Destination

The load will be shipped to a bonded warehouse (CFS) located within the greater area of the designated city in the destination country. Not "to the door." The carrier's destination agents and CFSs typically offer delivery services within your destination country at an additional cost. Then, after your consignee has recovered the imported goods, they should be able to order a "door delivery" and pay for the service directly to them at the destination. Otherwise, they may hire a local transportation company to deliver released goods "to the door."

4. LCL: Select the type of goods

Sea rates vary depending on the type of goods being shipped. Selecting the wrong commodity may lead to a price adjustment.

At the time of quote/booking request, please ensure that you select the correct type of internationally shipped goods, either:

5. LCL: Do you need Pickup?

The pickup rates for your internationally shipped goods, collected at your cargo location for delivery to an ocean carrier's terminal (CFS), depend on the type of collection site. Selecting the wrong type of pickup site may change shipping costs.

In the final step of the calculation, you will need to enter the five-digit U.S. ZIP (postal) code of your cargo location. You will then receive our complete price quote, including the option that covers the pickup cost.

Note: If it is a residential pickup or a business without a loading dock and forklift, then:

a. It will be a curbside pickup, meaning that the driver will only load your items from an acceptable ground-level loading area, driveway, front porch, garage, etc. Inside pickup service is not permitted.

b. If any item in your shipment weighs more than 100 lbs, a liftgate (a lifting mechanism on the truck) must be provided for this pickup. LTL carriers offer a liftgate for an additional flat rate of approximately $100+ per pickup. In some areas, liftgate trucks may be subject to availability.

6. LCL: Enter your ZIP (postal) code

If you request a pickup service, please provide the valid ZIP (U.S. postal code) of your goods' location to calculate the collection cost.

Have trouble finding a U.S. ZIP (postal) code? Use the U.S. ZIP Code Lookup link to find a ZIP code in the USA.

7. LCL: Get the total price on your shipment

You don't need to be exact when entering your shipping units' number, dimensions, and weight in our online price calculator. It's difficult to predict the precise volume and weight of international shipments at the time of quoting or booking, and the actual volume and weight of your shipment will likely differ from the information you provided in your quote or booking request.

The sea carrier's ship terminal will later determine the volume and weight of your shipment, and we will inform you about the verified w/m of your load. Our invoice will show your units' number, dimensions, and weight.

For more information, please refer to the web page.

8. LCL: Hazardous materials

Hazardous materials (Dangerous goods) are subject to special treatment and surcharges in international shipping and inland transportation. By selecting NO, the shipper confirms that the load contains no Dangerous Goods, including Lithium-Ion Batteries. The shipper acknowledged that steamship lines would bill a $35,000 misdeclaration fee because the documents did not match the dangerous goods documents. For more information, please refer to this link: Shipping Dangerous Goods.

9. LCL: Dim. Weight in lbs

LTL carriers use dimensional weight to calculate charges based on volumetric standards rather than actual weight when conveying loads to sea carriers' facilities (CFSs).

Dimensional weight determines whether you will be charged based on the weight or volume of your international shipment. For example, pickup (collection) and line-haul charges will be calculated based on your cargo's actual weight or dimensional weight, whichever is greater. In the USA, the dimensional weight in pounds is calculated using the formula: Dim. Weight in LBS = LxWxH (in inches)/194.

For more information, please refer to the web page.

10. LCL: Density Factor

Density refers to the weight per cubic foot or cubic meter. The Density Factor is one of four characteristics used to evaluate freight classes with NMFC (National Motor Freight Classification) rated shipments.

For more information, please refer to the web page.

11. LCL: Freight Class by Density

Classes are assigned based on an evaluation of four transportation characteristics:

  1. Density - weight per cubic foot
  2. Stowability - including excessive weight and excessive length
  3. Ease of Handling - includes special care or attention necessary to handle the goods
  4. Liability- includes price per pound, susceptibility to theft, liability to damage, and perishability

The price calculator helps you determine the freight class based on density, one of four characteristics. However, you should also consider the other characteristics and adjust the class of your shipment if necessary.

For more information, please refer to the web page.

12. LCL: Change Freight Class

The shipper is responsible for declaring the correct freight class. Our pickup and line haul prices are based on the declared class. An incorrect declaration may result in a change in price.

For more information, please refer to the web page.

13. LCL: Weight is generally not a pricing factor for regular cargo self-delivered directly to the ocean carrier's terminal (CFS).

The sea freight charges for international shipments that are self-delivered directly to an ocean carrier CFS are determined based solely on size (total chargeable volume per cubic meter). The weight for such international shipments is not a pricing factor unless its density exceeds the limit set by the carrier, which is often equal to 1654 lbs (or 750 kilograms) per cubic meter. U.S. Customs requires you to estimate the weight of your international shipment for statistical purposes only.

For more information, please refer to the web page.

14. LCL: Current Price

Rates may change due to carriers' General Rate Increases (GRI), fuel cost fluctuations (BAF), and other factors. All rates are subject to confirmation upon booking request and remain valid for 15 days from the date of the request.

15. LCL: Minimum ocean freight charge

There is no minimum volume required to ship. However, there is a minimum charge for international sea shipments. The cost of shipment is determined by the total volume or a minimum charge per shipment in USD, whichever amount is greater.

16. LCL: Per Cubic Meter w/m

When it comes to international cargo transportation by sea, w/m stands for Weight or Measurement, whichever is higher. W/m represents a limit on cargo density. In other words, light load is charged based on dimensions, while heavy load is charged based on weight. It's important to note that the w/m measurement may vary between different international ocean carriers.

Regular sea shipments will likely not exceed the density limit. Most of the time, w/m is limited by METRIC TON = 1000 KILOS or 2205 LBS PER CUBIC METER.

However, depending on the international sea carrier and vessel, w/m limits may vary:

- Short Ton = 2000 lbs per CBM
- 500 kilos per CBM
- "45 lbs rule". I.e., 45 lbs = one cubic foot.

For more information, please refer to the web page.

17. LCL: ARB

Carriers' arbitrary charges are based on w/m. See above.

18. LCL: BOL

Carrier's bill of lading charges - lump sum per single international shipment.

19. LCL: Ocean Freight

The base ocean carrier's price is for LCL (less than container load) from the Container Freight Station (CFS) at the origin to the CFS at the destination. Our online sea price calculation is based on the sea freight rate for international shipping of boxed or crated goods delivered directly to the sea carrier's facility, the CFS.

Note: In our online price calculator's dropdown list, all direct origin sea carrier facilities (CFSs) are highlighted and NOT marked with asterisks (for example, ATLANTA). Deliveries directly to CFSs are the most economical way to ship overseas LCL (boxed or crated cargo). There will be no additional charges for taking your load on board the vessel.

International shipping costs from CFSs are calculated per Cubic Meter W/M or the minimum sea freight charge on a shipment, whichever is greater.

MINIMUM CHARGE: Your international shipment is not limited by volume but always incurs a minimum freight cost.

The minimum sea freight cost is the lowest amount that will be charged, regardless of the volume of your load. For instance, if you ship a relatively small volume and the total charge is calculated to be less than the minimum charge, you will still be charged the minimum amount.

Often, minimum charges equal shipping a load with a total volume of one cubic meter. However, certain origins-destinations have minimum charges higher than shipping one cubic meter. You always see the minimum charge in our rates.

W/m - Weight or Measurement, whichever is higher. Find more about W/M and Cubic Meter in this link.

20. LCL: Service Fee

International freight forwarders charge a flat fee for their service.

21. LCL: Disbursement fee

3.79% disbursement fee on money transactions. It covers credits, transfers, merchant fees, messenger fees, etc. The minimum fee is $25.

22. LCL: What is SED?

SED - U.S. Shipper's Export Declaration. Please find more information about SED at this link.

23. LCL: How do you know if a web page you view is Secure?

When browsing the web, you'll notice that most URLs (web page addresses) start with "HTTP." However, when you're on a secure connection, the address will start with "HTTPS" - with the added "s" at the end.

"HTTPS" indicates that the website uses a security protocol called SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) to encrypt the information you send and receive. This means that any information you provide, such as your name, email address, etc., is scrambled so that others can't read it.

24. LCL: Estimate value in US$

When shipping goods internationally, you must provide an estimated value. You can update this value when you book your sea shipment.

U.S. Customs requires a value declaration for all international shipments from the USA.

Our online calculator will determine whether the U.S. Shipper's Export Declaration (SED) needs to be filed based on the declared value. You can find more information about the U.S. Shipper's Export Declaration at this link.

25. LCL: Inland trucking (Pickup)

In LCL, inland trucking transports loads from a landlocked location to an ocean carrier's warehouse (CFS) for further transportation abroad.

Suppose your international shipment needs to be picked up from your location or transported from an LTL carrier terminal to CFS. In that case, we recommend reading the following links: LINE HAULS & PICKUPS and CUBIC METER.

26. LCL: Insurance premium

As a U.S. freight forwarder, upon your request, we can obtain an insurance certificate from a marine cargo insurance provider in the consignee's (recipient's) name on your behalf. For more information, please refer to this link.

27. LCL: Ocean Freight

The cost of ocean freight (CFS-CFS) from an ocean carrier is for your international shipment. The price will be specified in the ocean carrier's rated Bill of Lading, which we will provide upon your shipment's departure and your final payment towards our invoice.
